Congratulations Jazz Members on your performance Friday, April 28th at the Northwest Florida Jazz Festival held at Pace Assembly of God Church. The band was recognized as Outstanding Middle School Jazz Band along with 2 individual awards given - Brayden Wilson, Most Outstanding Middle School Musician, and Nathan Garcia, Most Outstanding Middle School Improvised Soloist!

Congratulations to our 2023 Symphonic Band for earning All Superior ratings at our yearly Music Performance Assessment and A's in each caption of Performance Fundamentals, Technical Preparation and Musical Effect from the 3 stage judges and the Sight Reading judge! One stage judge even had A+ as our final grade in each caption! Way to go Symphonic Band students! We will listen to your performance recording tomorrow in class (March 10th).
Congratulations to our Florida All-State Band members! Left to right are Cooper Barton, percussion; Nathan Garcia, clarinet; Imani Zandi-Karimi, clarinet; and Coda Turner, euphonium! These students were selected from thousands of auditioners throughout the state via their recorded audition in mid-September. State results just came out in November. They will travel to Tampa in January to perform in this prestigious ensemble. Congratulations to these 4 outstanding musicians!!!!

Upcoming Important Band Dates:
- Saturday, September 17th - All-State auditions at MHS. Only for those who prepared the audition materials during summer lessons. Parents will receive a purple covered audition time/info packet by Monday, Sept 12th.
- September 23rd through October 7th - Online Poppin' Popcorn Fundraiser window. More info will be posted here soon. All level Band classes participate.
- Friday September 30th - Symphonic Class and Intermediate Class performs in MHS homecoming parade during school day, then with MHS Band 1st half of game that evening. More details posted here soon and sent home via document soon.
- October 6th - Fall Band Dance Fundraiser in the Band Room after school till 5:00 PM. Open to all level band students only. Ask your child for the green BAND DANCE TICKET FORM. Due date extended to Oct 5th. Thanks.
- November 8th - All-County Auditions for our Symphonic students at Avalon MS. Students are now working on the scale requirements in class, as well as the audition piece. Please leave that afternoon/evening open if you are a Symphonic class family. Audition times will be sent home as soon as known. UPDATE - Blue audition time forms were sent home with each eligible student on Nov. 1st.
- Updated on 10/4 - - Winter Band Concert for all level classes is Tuesday, December 13th at 1st Baptist Church in Milton (6797 Caroline St, 32670.) Drop your child off at any main door at or before 6:00 with instrument and music (leave cases in car) and find a parking space while they report to their ready area inside at 6:00 for group warm up. All music starts at 6:30 PM. Symphonic and Jazz will wear their formal uniforms. Symphonic Boys wear black socks and solid dark shoes, black preferred. - If you don't have solid black, do the extra socks trick we discussed in class. For Beginners and Intermediate - wear your best outfit without purchasing new clothes. Santa hats are allowed. Thanks.
- December 15th - Winter Band Dance Fundraiser! After school until 5:00 PM. Only open to band students. Please ask your child for the gold ticket form, fill out and return with ticket money to the band room by Dec. 14th. Thanks.

- Starting Tues, January 17th, Symphonic Band will have the following sectional schedule for after school in the Hobbs band room until 3:30 to prepare for the March 9th MPA: Mondays -French Horns; Tuesdays – Trumpets; Wednesdays – Flutes, clarinets and alto saxes; Thursdays – Trombones, baritones, bass clar, tenor sax, bassoon and tubas;
Fridays – Percussion. All Sectionals end Mar. 8th. - Thurs, March 9th, 2023: Symphonic Band yearly Music Performance Assessment @ FWBHS. Most important performance for this class for the year. Please avoid orthodontia or dental work the 3 weeks prior to Mar. 9th. Thank you.

For the first time in 2 years, our county had its Middle School All-County band audition last Thursday. Results were released 11/8, and our Jaguars performed as strong as they did pre-pandemic! - If your child plays a school-owned instrument - tuba, French horn, tenor sax, bari sax, baritone/euphonium, oboe or bassoon, and bass clarinet, please submit your one time $100 school rental payment to the locked money box in the band room as soon as possible. Please make sure checks are made out to Hobbs Band and that you include your child's name on the check. Percussion students please submit a one time $50 school rental payment for the use of the school percussion equipment for the year. Thank you!
- Remember- If any rental is a financial hardship, please send a written note in a sealed envelope to Mr. Colón stating so along with what amount you think you can pay.
