Welcome to our Student Teacher, Mr. Sam Shaner, senior at the University of Southern Mississippi! He will be a part of us until December when he earns his Bachelor's in Music Education.

This is NOT for paying a music store for their private monthly rental. This is for Hobbs Band owned items issued to students.

Important Band Dates for 2025-2026 School Year:
- Sat. Sept 13th - All-State Band auditions only for those who were given blue invitation sheet.
- Fri. October 17th - MHS Band Day for Symphonic and Intermediate classes. Gold form will be sent home with details by end of Sept. We will march in Homecoming parade that morning, then perform with MHS 1st and 2nd quarter of game. Check out will be at half time. Look for gold ino form in September.
- Friday, Nov 7th - Fall Band Dance fundraiser after school till 5:00. For Band students only and dance is held in the band room. Ticket info going home 10/27.
- Thurs Nov 13th - Mr. C will be conducting the Escambia County All-County Honor Band. If you would like to be in the audience, it is free and open to the public. Location is Saenger Theater in Pcola starting at 6:00 pm.
- Mon November 17th - Santa Rosa All-County Honor Band Auditions for students in Symphonic who complete the requirements in class by October 1st. More info to be sent home with those students before first week of October.
- Friday, December 5th - Winter Concert for all level classes at MHS auditorium. Parents drop off student with music and instrument at the MHS Auditorium by 6:00 PM for warm up, then find a parking space. Leave instrument cases in car. Symphonic and Jazz in full uniform to be issued by November. All other classes wear your best outfit without purchasing new clothing. Santa hats are allowed. All music starts at 6:30 PM. Free and open to the public. (This date was posted 9/2/25 at 8:30 AM. Please mark your calendars.) Concert should be done near 7:30.
- Jan14-Jan17 - All-State band in Tampa. If your child auditioned, leave these dates open in the event they are selected.
- Sat Jan 24th - Santa Rosa All-County Honor Band performance for those who make it based on November 17th audition. Location is Pace Assembly of God Church at 2:00 pm. More details posted here by late October.
- Thursday March 12th - VERY IMPORTANT Symphonic Band date - Our yearly Music Performance Assessment (MPA). Symphonic Parents - Please leave entire day and night open. This is our yearly Music Performance Assessment. Bands will be assigned performance times by February.
- Sat April 11th - FBA Solo and Ensemble Festival for any Symphonic or Intermediate student at Avalon MS. Sign ups for this educational and fun event will be late January here on the band website. Please leave entire day open if your child would like to perform a solo or small ensemble for the FBA judges that day. More details on registration page on this website by February.
- May Spring Concert and Awards night will appear here as soon as known.
Congratulations to our 2024-25 Hobbs Symphonic Band students who earned final grades of "A" in each caption and all Superior ratings at this year's Music Performance Assessment! We were one of only 9 schools in district one of Florida, which includes Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Escambia counties, to receive this overall assessment.

Once again, our band students excelled at All-County Band auditions! Hobbs had the highest number selected from any school, with 26 musicians selected! Additionally, we had the highest number of 1st and 2nd place scores! As one of 10 middle schools represented, Hobbs makes up nearly 30% of the All-County Band! March 9, 2023: Congratulations to our 2023 Symphonic Band for earning All Superior ratings at our yearly Music Performance Assessment and A's in each caption of Performance Fundamentals, Technical Preparation and Musical Effect from the 3 stage judges and the Sight Reading judge! One stage judge even had A+ as our final grade in each caption! Way to go Symphonic Band students! We will listen to your performance recording tomorrow in class (March 10th).
Congratulations Jazz Members on your performance Friday, April 28th, 2023 at the Northwest Florida Jazz Festival held at Pace Assembly of God Church. The band was recognized as Outstanding Middle School Jazz Band along with 2 individual awards given - Brayden Wilson, Most Outstanding Middle School Musician, and Nathan Garcia, Most Outstanding Middle School Improvised Soloist!

These students were selected from thousands of auditioners throughout the state via their recorded audition in mid-September. State results just came out in November. For the first time in 2 years, our county had its Middle School All-County band audition last Thursday. Results were released 11/8, and our Jaguars performed as strong as they did pre-pandemic! - If your child plays a school-owned instrument - tuba, French horn, tenor sax, bari sax, baritone/euphonium, oboe or bassoon, and bass clarinet, please submit your one time $100 school rental payment to the locked money box in the band room as soon as possible. Please make sure checks are made out to Hobbs Band and that you include your child's name on the check. Percussion students please submit a one time $50 school rental payment for the use of the school percussion equipment for the year. Thank you!
- Remember- If any rental is a financial hardship, please send a written note in a sealed envelope to Mr. Colón stating so along with what amount you think you can pay.
